Euan Murray

Euan is responsible for running projects to develop the Carbon Trust company strategy, use market insight to inform business and policy-makers and to provide strategy consultancy services to other parts of the Carbon Trust organisation. Most recently, Euan has been working to develop an offering to address carbon emissions across the supply chain and the carbon footprint of consumer products.
Prior to joining the Carbon Trust, Euan was responsible for strategy and product development for Accucard, a financial services start-up. He has also worked as a consultant with Mitchell Madison Group, a strategic management consultancy, on projects in construction & engineering, manufacturing, retail, agriculture and financial services in the UK, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany.
Euan holds a BA in Natural Sciences and a MSc. in Materials Science & Metallurgy from Cambridge University.

Jessica Sansom

Jessica Sansom is Head of Sustainability for Innocent Drinks, responsible for meeting the company's mantra to 'leave things a little better than we find them'. She has worked in both the private and public sector, and as an environmental consultant in her home country of Australia. Her work has focussed on the development, implementation and communication of strategic plans to incorporate the principles of sustainable development into everyday business practices. Jessica has an BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science from the Australian National University.

Sarah Severn

Sarah has an extensive background in consumer research and advertising prior to joining Nike where she has spent the last 14 years in a variety of roles. Originally recruited in 1993 to establish a consumer insights department in Nike’s European headquarters she moved into an environmental role and in 1995 relocated to World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon as Global Director of the Environmental Action Team.
In June 2000 Sarah was appointed Director of Sustainable Development. In this role she focused primarily on stakeholder engagement, the continued integration of sustainability into the business, and corporate reporting.
The Corporate Responsibility team reorganized in 2005 to better align with the structure and needs of the business. In a new role as Director of Corporate Responsibility Horizons Sarah has responsibility for identifying future trends, opportunities and issues at the intersection of business and sustainability. For the past 10 years she has lead Nike’s efforts around climate change.
Sarah served on the Pacific Northwest regional council of the President’s Council for Sustainable Development from 1995 to1997 and the board of The Natural Step U.S from 1997 to 2004. Currently she serves on the Advisory Boards of Sustainable Northwest and the Oregon Natural Step network and is a member of the State of Oregon Governor’s Climate Change Integration Group.

James R. Hagan

James Hagan is Vice President, Corporate Environment, Health and Safety, GlaxoSmithKline. Previously, he held the position of Vice President and Director, Corporate Environment and Safety in SmithKline Beecham from April 1994 until the completion of the merger with Glaxo Wellcome in 2000. Dr. Hagan's responsibilities cover the full range of EHS programmes worldwide including the setting of the direction for the company and the provision of environment, health and safety scientific and engineering support.
Dr. Hagan joined SmithKline Beckman in 1983 as Manager of Corporate Environmental Services and held a series of EHS management positions until 1994 when he was named SmithKline Beecham’s Vice President/Director of Corporate Environment and Safety.
Prior to joining SmithKline Beecham, he worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in the Wastewater, Hazardous Waste and Superfund programs as well as two years as the Deputy Administrator of the Water and Sewage Management Administration for the District of Columbia. Prior to his government service, he worked in the chemical industry in environmental research, development, design and construction.
Dr. Hagan holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Drexel University and two Masters of Science qualifications in Environmental Health Engineering and Management Sciences. His BS degree is in Chemical Engineering from Bucknell University. He is a Registered Professional Engineer, a Diplomat of Environmental Engineering and a Certified Quality Manager. He is active in EHS issues in pharmaceutical trade associations and is a member of EHS professional organisations.

Andrew Jenkins

After graduating in Environmental Science in 1977, Andrew has worked in product and packaging design management and development for several major manufacturing and retailing organisations including the Storehouse Group. He joined The Boots Group plc. in 1994. As a member of the Quality & CSR Support team Andrew's role is to advise product marketing and development groups on sustainable development issues. His work includes advising the development of the company Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy and the introduction of compliance systems and sustainable product design strategies covering the wide portfolio of Boots products. Andrew represents the company on several trade association committees and was Boots representative in the development of the Sigma guidelines for integrating sustainable development into business. This has now continued with work on the EU Roundtable on Sustainable Development standards and representation on the Bsi committee responsible for BS8900 Guidance for Managing Sustainable Development. His work also includes developing external partnerships in the area of sustainable development with trade associations, academic institutions and organisations such as Forum for the Future.

David Lawrence

David Lawrence is responsible for the Procurement Governance activities at Diageo, which covers risk management processes with suppliers, Sarbanes Oxley compliance, contract management and Corporate Social Responsibility work, as well as Procedures and Policies development for Procurement.
After graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, David held several Project Engineering roles with Eden Vale and Guinness (now Diageo). Then moved through a number of positions in Engineering and Operations management, including several overseas roles in Africa, becoming a qualified brewer and gaining a Diploma in Management Studies along the way. Now working in Procurement, David looks to bring this technical background to practical use when balancing the ever increasing compliance pressures with the commercial realities of a customer/supplier relationship in the Supply Chain. Included in this experience is implementation of ISO 14001 and managing a wide range of environmental impact reduction projects.
In his current role, David is also a member of the corporate Environmental Working Group that reports to the CEO and who are leading Diageo's drive to reduce their impact across the Supply Chain.

Helen Sisson

Helen Sisson is Group Technical Director for Greencore. In this role Helen is responsible for all aspects of food safety, health & safety and the environment as well as leading the company’s health agenda and unique food first programme.
Helen was appointed Group Technical Director in 2004 having held a number of technical and operational roles within Greencore.
During this time Greencore has made tremendous progress in each of these key areas of risk management achieving recognition from a number of sources including its customers, insurers and national government offices and more importantly contributing to the progress and profitability of the Group.

James Cherry

James Cherry is Group Environmental Manager for Greencore, having joined the company in January 2005. His role includes the coordination of the group carbon management programme, waste management, development of Environmental Management Systems, and providing environmental advice & support to all elements of the group. James is also heading up the group project that will lead to the diversion of a large proportion of Greencore’s waste away from landfill and into renewable energy.
Prior to joining Greencore James spend 4 years as Group Environmental Manager with British Bakeries (part of RHM), and 6 years as environmental coordinator and then technical manager at Glanbia Foods, Taw Valley Creamery.
James also worked as a senior consultant on Project Acorn – a government sponsored project to develop a system for the phased implementation of Environmental Management Systems. This became the British Standard BS8555.

Gavin George

Gavin has headed up the retail team at Ernst &Young since 2005 and has worked in the retail industry for over 20 years. Gavin has held senior positions with specialised retail consultancy firms Itim, Rubus and Management Horizons Europe where he led a number of high profile operational consulting assignments. His particular areas of experience are multi channel retailing, supply chain transformation and store operations improvements. He has worked with most of the UK’s top 20 retailers and undertaken international assignments in the US, throughout Western, Central & Eastern Europe, the Middle East, India, Russia and Australia.
Prior to retail advisory Gavin was a Regional Director at Dixons and originally qualify as a chartered accountant.

Dr Steve Howard

Steve is the CEO of The Climate Group which he co-founded in late 2003. He is also a founding member of HSBC's Carbon Management Task Force. Prior to his role with The Climate Group, Steve was a Partner in ERM where he led the work on Corporate Social Responsibility for clients as diverse as Kingfisher and ABN Amro and on climate change related projects for a range of organisations including EDF Energy, BP, WWF and The World Bank. Previously he was the founding Director of the Global Forest and Trade Network for WWF International, where he led an international team involved in advising 700 companies on forest and supply chain issues. He was also Chairman of the UK Forest Stewardship Council where he helped achieve a far-reaching consensus on a national forest certification standard. Steve was founding Chairman of the Tropical Forest Trust from 1999 to 2004, which he helped establish to respond to the need for ethically sourced tropical timber. He has a first class honours degree in ecology and a PhD in environmental physics based on work as a Senior Fellow at the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry in Kenya. Over the course of his career Steve has worked in more than thirty countries. In December 2005 he was named by Scientific American magazine as a Policy Leader within the SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN 50 the magazine's prestigious annual list recognizing outstanding acts of leadership in science and technology from the last year.

Peter Madden

Peter Madden is Chief Executive of Forum for the Future, the UK's leading sustainable development charity. Forum for the Future works with a range of sectors to find positive solutions to tomorrow’s problems.
He has worked for 15 years on sustainable development issues. From 2002 to 2005, he worked as Head of Policy at the Environment Agency, leading teams working on issues such as climate change, modern regulation, planning and sustainable communities. Prior to that, he was Ministerial Adviser at Defra and DETR, where he advised Ministers and the Prime Minister on environmental issues. Before that, he was Director of the environmental charity Green Alliance and also Head of Policy at Christian Aid.
Peter has written widely for the media and published numerous pamphlets and reports, including The Case for a Sustainable Energy Agency (1998), The Lands that Trade Forgot (1996), and The Globetrotting Sports Shoe (1994), and a book 'A Raw Deal: Trade and the World's Poor' (1992, 1993).
He holds a Master of Arts from University College London and a BA from Oxford University.
He has previously been a member of the UK Round Table on Sustainable Development, (1998-2000), the Board of the European Environment Bureau, 1998-2000, and the Board of the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development, 1995-1997.
He is currently a Board member of Groundwork UK, an environmental regeneration charity, and of the Foreign Office’s Green Globe Network.

Dr Sally Uren

Sally's interest is in helping the business community realise the opportunity agenda presented by sustainable development. Sally is particularly interested in assisting the retail, construction, transport and financial services sector tackle sustainability. She is very keen to demonstrate the competitive advantages of leadership on this agenda for business. Sally joined Forum's Business Programme in 2002. Since then she's been working with business partners across all sectors get to grips with sustainability, has overseen and contributed to a wide range of research projects - all designed to unlock the links between sustainable development and successful business and has presented at both national and international conferences. She has been appointed by HRH Prince of Wales as an advisor to Duchy Originals. She is also an independent advisor to The Carbon Neutral Company. Sally is a judge on numerous sustainability awards, including the Network Rail and, IGD foods industry awards. Sally co-authored Forum's ground-breaking publication Leader Business, which sets out what we think constitutes best practice in embedding sustainability into business. Prior to joining the Forum, Sally founded and directed the Sustainability Group at private consultancy Casella Stanger (now owned by Bureau Veritas)

Phillip Ward joined WRAP in January 2004. As the Director for Waste Implementation Programmes he has direct responsibility for waste minimisation programmes; for advice to local authorities on collection systems and for training.
Phillip joined WRAP after 30 years in government latterly as the Director of Local Government Performance in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. He was previously Principal Finance Officer for the Department of Transport Local Government and the Regions; Director of Energy Environment and Waste in DETR; and Director of Construction Sponsorship and Private Secretary to 3 Secretaries of State, in the Department of the Environment.

Following a career break where Jon dedicated his time to surfing the best breaks around the world, he then joined Telecommunications Company Energis. Prior to The CarbonNeutral® Company he held the role of European Marketing Director. He now heads up and is growing our team of 15 Client Engagement people.

Deborah Evans

Deborah Evans is Head of Corporate Reporting and Assurance at LRQA, and is responsible for managing our verification services. She leads the team whose task it is to understand the issues which surround assuring the carbon footprint in supply chains. Before joining Lloyd’s Register, Deborah coded computer algorithms for transmission to satellites. These algorithms collected data on solar cycles, sun spots and flares.
Deborah has over fifteen years experience in assessing environmental management systems and verifying data. She has worked on regulatory emission trading schemes, and on annual company CSR and sustainability reports. She has worked with global companies such as BP, Johnson & Johnson, ExxonMobil, BT, TNT, Honeywell, Matsushitu and Lucent Technologies, helping them to improve their sustainability performance.
Deborah’s experience of verification has seen her getting involved in the technical committees developing:
- AccountAbility’s Assurance Standard (A1000 AS)
- GRI’s Global Reporting Initiative for the environmental, health, safety and labour indicators
- British Standards’ guidance document for managing sustainable development
- ISO’s standards on environment and social responsibility.

Graduating from Oxford University in 1982, Ewan joined the international firm of management consultants, Coopers & Lybrand. Following five years operational experience with the Transport Development Group (TDG) he established his own consultancy firm. Ewan was a founder director of Radical in 1993 and has directed consultancy assignments for clients including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Unilever, Shell, Hitachi, TNT and DHL Exel Supply Chain. Radical was acquired by Barloworld Optimus in 2005. Ewan has worked extensively in Europe and beyond, increasingly for multi-national companies concentrating on logistics strategy, network design and inventory management. Ewan is a member of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK).

Dr Belinda Howell

Belinda is Chief Executive of Greenstone Carbon Management, a business-to-business carbon solutions provider which helps companies to account for and drive down carbon, mitigate the impact of emissions and realise significant operational cost savings. Passionate about making the link between sustainability and value, Belinda has advised major international companies across a wide range of sectors on environmental and social responsibility. As European Director of URS Sustainable Solutions, Belinda led work with companies such as Unilever, HSBC, Fortis, The Body Shop, National Grid, United Utilities and Xstrata and in the public sector to the UK Environment Agency and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on the G8 summit. As Director of Business in the Environment, Belinda worked with business leaders across the FTSE 350 companies and led the development of Business in the Community’s Corporate Responsibility Index. Previously Belinda developed corporate environmental and social responsibility policy and implemented product and supply chain strategy at the FTSE 100 retailer Boots the Chemists.
Earlier in her career, Belinda was a scientist specialising in research and product development for International Development and Biocompatibles. Belinda has an MBA (awarded the Bass prize for best MBA of the year) and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry.

Peter Webster

Peter, head of the Climate Change Group of Utilyx has been closely involved in all forms of energy for over 25 years, and has most recently been closely involved with renewables worldwide.
With Shell International, he was responsible for business activities in energy management, solar and heat pump operations. He also established electricity generation businesses and was the founding MD of Shell Power Limited. He subsequently was appointed Head of Sales and Marketing at Nuclear Electric, and then moved to be MD of Midlands Gas.
Transferring to Midland Electricity’s US parent company, Cinergy, he established one of Europe’s largest gas and power trading companies. Cinergy Global Trading was intimately involved in financing and developing over 400 MW of renewable generation capacity, and became the UK’s largest trader of renewable instruments.
More recently, Peter has advised renewable project developers, energy users and financiers in arrangement to produce and acquire renewable fuels and electricity. He has assisted major companies in establishing and implementing “green” strategies.
Peter is also one of the founding owner/directors of the Energy Crops Company – one of the UK’s largest and fastest growing biomass companies.

Tahsin Choudhury

Tahsin is a Senior Consultant within the Corporate Strategy Unit of EcoSecurities' Global Consulting Services. His day to day activities involve engaging with corporate organisations and working with them to develop carbon reduction and mitigation strategies. This often involves assessment of the clients' up and downstream supply chain emissions, the quantification of which provides their footprint. He and his team have seen increasing demand for these services in both the compliance and the voluntary sector, from sectors bound by Kyoto and the European Trading Scheme to those for whom a greener and more sustainable approach to their activities makes better business sense.
With EcoSecurities, Tahsin previously worked on the preparation of UN documentation for the first gas flaring emission reduction project in the Middle East. He is Project Manager for a hydroelectric project in West Africa and an emission reduction project within the cement industry based in Malaysia. He has also acted as Project Manager on a World Bank contract for the delivery of Capacity Building workshops covering the Kyoto Protocol and Carbon Markets in six North African and Middle Eastern countries.
Tahsin holds a Bachelors and Doctorate in Chemical Engineering, both from Imperial College, University of London and a Masters degree in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford.

Founded in 2003, HF is focused on the development of toolsets to enable fast and efficient collection of product and process information throughout the supply-chain.

Gareth Edwards-Jones

Gareth was brought up on a farm in North Wales. He studied biology at Manchester University for his first degree. This was followed by completing a PhD in ecology at Imperial College, London.
After completing his PhD he did some work for British Sugar on decision support systems, followed by a year with a commercial computer company.
In 1990 he became Senior Bioeconomist in the SAC, Edinburgh and progressed to become head of the Rural Resource Management Dept in SAC in 1995.
In 1998 he took the Chair in Agriculture and Land Use at the University of Wales, Bangor.
His research interests are broad and include sustainable food systems, impact of climate change on agriculture and land use, economics of conservation and farmer decision making. He is also actively involved in agricultural development in Wales.
Gareth was a member of the Advisory Committee on Pesticides between 2000 and 2005, and is currently on the Scientific Advisory Panel for Natural England and the 2020 vision group of the Welsh Assembly.

Emily Farnworth

Emily is the Leadership Group Manager at The Climate Group. This role involves managing our business sector groups and work programmes to enable knowledge sharing and implementation of solutions for a low carbon economy. Prior to joining The Climate Group in 2006, Emily worked for the global environmental consultancy firm Environmental Resources Management where she was the Manager of the New York City Office and a Senior Consultant in the Strategic Advice Group. Emily has over twelve years experience in consulting. Her focus has been on assisting companies develop and implement solutions for environmentally sustainable business practices. Emily has a Masters degree in Environmental and Management Sciences and began her career in the Power Sector assisting electricity companies with the implementation of environmental management systems. Since then she has worked with leading businesses across Europe, Russia and North America including companies like Shell, BP, Rio Tinto, Johnson & Johnson, Unilever, Pfizer and ABN Amro. Emily has also worked on multi-partner initiatives with the International Standards Organisation and Business for Social Responsibility, in the public sector with the UK's Environment Agency and with non-profit organisations including WWF International.
